Our staff has had another great week on the golf course! It is really beginning to mature and hit its summer stride. I have said it before that I have truly enjoyed getting to know the membership here. It is great to a part of an organization where your work is appreciated and the membership takes pride in their golf course.
In recent weeks I have fielded numerous questions about the areas that we have stopped mowing and maintaining. The vast majority of the comments and questions have been positive and the changes have been well received. Let me take a moment to fill everyone in. Yes, we are allowing certain areas to grow up with taller grasses, and yes this is a big change if you have been a member for some time. The main focus behind this move is to increase our environmental awareness and to decrease our labor outputs in out-of-play areas resulting in a more natural look. Environmentally, we are creating new habitats for our native animal species, and along our creek banks reducing the chances for runoff into the water systems. Also, a number of these areas have been identified because they are time consuming to maintain and have resulted in significant wear and tear to our equipment. For most golf shots these areas are not in play and can be found next to tee decks and under trees.
