Our staff has finally begun work around the 5th green. For quite some time talk has centered around the difficulty of this hole for higher handicap players. These players are faced with a difficult situation as they near the green. A double hazard looms in the form of the creek and the front greenside bunker, all within 100 yards of the green. Fortunately, our Club has the original drawing from Donald Ross, which shows no bunker in front of the green. Opinions swirled in meetings regarding what to do in front of the green if the bunker were to be removed. Another fortunate event occurred when the Board of Directors decided to adopt a policy that work done on the course should be in accordance with the architectural drawings we have. Issue resolved, and we move forward. The front bunker comes out, and we replace the one in the back that was removed years ago. The finished product, green shape and bunker placement, will be pretty close to original.
