Perfect conditions for turf growth are just beginning to show up. It has been a cloudy, rainy, and cool spring. This past winter was no better, colder than many long time residents can remember. Hence some of our turf has taken a few licks to the chin. Comments have been circulating around the Club that our bermudagrass collars are dead. Yes some are pretty dinged up, but certainly not the majority. We are well aware of the situation, and I feel that our staff has been very proactive reviving suspect turf through cultural practices and fertilization. The areas of decline share a few traits; wet, shade, and north facing. Moving forward our plan is this. Additional food, fertilizer, was applied today. Temperatures are forecasted to climb into the low to mid 80's next week which should really turn on the growth of the bermudagrass. After next week we will have a good idea of what turf will survive and what will not. We then will remove and replace with new sod ensuring that the course has great coverage for the remainder of the playing season.
