Summer continues to grind on.  So far, so good.  The conditioning of the course is exactly where we want it, now the challenge is to maintain that level for the remainder of the season.  Fortunately, the faucet in the sky seems to be operating normally this year.  We have had some hot and dry days allowing the golf course to dry down producing firm, fast, old school conditions.  Personally, I like it.

The Fazio Junior Masters Invitational made its appearance last week.  Conditions were ideal as 84 young men and women teed it up for a stroke play format.  It was great to see the ability of these players along with their great attitude and course etiquette.

Since last season we began to push mow numerous areas around the course.  It has been beneficial to use these light weight mowers in more sensitive areas where damage frequently occurred with a larger machine.  The issue we had was the best way to transport them.  I lamented to our Equipment Technician, Luke Sweeterman, and before long he had retrofitted an old Toro Transpro 80 trailer making it perfect for the job.  All of our staff members play a significant role in our success.  Luke has been mentioned frequently on this blog, and I even talked up his skills yesterday in the Grill while eating lunch with a few members.

On the subject of staff members.  Eric Withrow is a veteran of our team and now works part time while attending classes at Blue Ridge Community College.  He has a soft spot for animals of all sorts... even my personal kryptonite, snakes.
