Kaboom!!

34

A few nights ago our area experienced a huge electrical storm.  Starting early in the evening lightning flashed across the sky putting on a beautiful natural fireworks display. The storm made for good early morning chatter amongst our staff and the perfect topic for a safety meeting the following morning.

The Club utilizes a lightning detection system called Strike Guard, and I am sure the majority of our golfing membership has heard it.  Late last summer the original system was updated due to its unreliability and age.  A few quick facts about our detection system.  First, it is set to sound a "warning" alarm when lightning is detected within a 10 mile radius of the Club.  The "all clear" alarm will not sound until lightning has not been detected within 10 miles of the Club for 30 minutes. The actual detection devise is located on the roof of the Golf Shop.  Once lightening is detected, a wireless signal is sent to three separate sirens located throughout the course; between holes 6/7, 15/16, and behind 18 tee. I know that the new sounds for "warning" and "all clear" sound more like impending Armageddon, but it surely gets ones attention.
