The blue and white tee decks, on the 13th hole, had developed a significant ridge or crowning, high in the middle and original grade on the sides. Crowning on a par 3 tee deck is a natural phenomenon that can occur quickly, especially on a short hole like this one. Because it is a short par 3, the majority of players hit a wedge shot, usually producing a rather large divot. In addition, the tee area is small, most shots being hit from the middle of the tee. Our staff uses a sand and seed mixture to fill those divots. Over time, the combination of player activity and maintenance personnel work, the tee will develop a ridge or crown. The only way to remedy the situation is to strip the tee of turf, remove the area of build up, re-level the tee, and install fresh sod.
